Industry reports put this EMR vendor as one of the top growing health IT companies, certainly benefitting from the injection of capital into the market from the federal government. The Meaningful Use incentives have boosted spending in the market, and inflated the bottom lines of many health IT vendors. eCW has captured a large share of the providers adapting to digital health records in the past couple years.

eClinicalWorks reports that they have over 220,000 providers on their system.

They are obviously doing many things right, as eClinicalWorks appears frequently near the top or at the top of industry satisfaction surveys.

eCW has done a fantastic job of securing relationships with Regional Extension Centers, and commitments from early Patient Centered Medical Homes and Accountable Care Organizations.

While some of their competitors are struggling with the high demand and growth triggered by the Meaningful Use incentives, eClinicalWorks appears to be handling the growth well, and continues to innovate to stay ahead of rapid changes in the health care industry.

Compared to some of their leading competitors, eCW has a lower point of entry, with cloud packages that start at $449 per month. Here is a chart from eCW of pricing packages and options.

eCW also offers PM functionality and RCM services, and they are exploring pricing plans similar to athenahealth, where providers pay a percentage of collections instead of a fixed fee.

However, practices should still compare eClinicalWorks to several other leading options before selecting. The prices quoted to get into the system can be much lower than the total cost of ownership. It is not always in the best interest of a practice to save money up front by limited implementation assistance or training. This can and often does lead to a failed implementation.
